Zoho Recruit alternative

A Zoho Recruit alternative you own outright.

Zoho Recruit is the cheapest serious ATS around, and if it fits your desk you should keep it. This page is for when it stops fitting: the job caps, the generic fields, the process you keep bending. We build the version shaped to you, that you own.

The problem

Cheap seats, with a ceiling built in.

Zoho Recruit really is the cheapest serious ATS around: $25 per recruiter per month on Standard, $75 on Enterprise, billed annually, from Zoho’s own pricing. The catch is not the price. It is the shape: generic fields your process bends around, active-job caps per licence (10 on Standard, 20 on Enterprise), and a system that stays someone else’s product however long you pay for it.

The shift

Renting a system or owning one.

Renting

  • $25–$90 per recruiter per month, depending on tier and billing
  • Active-job caps per licence: 10 on Standard, 20 on Enterprise
  • Generic fields; your process bends to the tool
  • Your data lives in their cloud, not your tenant

Owning

  • One build price (€12k–28k scope for most agencies), spread monthly if you like
  • Runs on the Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace you already pay for, or your own hosting
  • No per-seat fees, not to us and not to Microsoft or Google
  • Source code, schema and data in your own repository from day one
  • No job caps; limits are designed, published and honest
The numbers

Six seats, at list price.

List prices from each vendor's own public pricing page, fetched 20 August 2026. Six seats, twelve months, list price of the named tier, no discounts assumed on either side. Zoho dollar figures from Zoho’s own price data (the file zoho.com/recruit/pricing.html loads to render its prices); the job caps from that page’s visible text. At six seats Zoho is cheaper on the monthly, and we say so; the comparison is what five years buys you. Our figures: the pricing page.

Questions

Asked before every build.

Zoho Recruit is cheap. Why would we pay more for custom?
If Zoho fits your desk and the caps don't bite, keep it, genuinely. The case for custom is not the monthly price at six seats. It is shape and ceiling: generic fields you bend your process around, active-job caps per licence, and a system that stays someone else's product. Five years of Zoho Enterprise for six seats is $27,000 (about €25,000) at list price, the same range of money as our worked example’s total. The difference is what you hold at the end.
What are the caps you keep mentioning?
Zoho Recruit's published plans cap active jobs per recruiter licence: 10 on Standard, 20 on Enterprise, per their own pricing page. A busy perm desk hits that quietly, and the fix is upgrading every seat. A custom build has no per-seat licence and no job cap; the practical limits are the ones we design for, and we publish them honestly: SharePoint-native builds run comfortably to about 30,000 records, hybrid beyond that.
What does a build cost instead?
Most agency builds land in a €12k–28k build scope, spread as a fixed monthly if you prefer. Our worked example takes €24k: paid over one to three years it totals €27,000 to €33,000, and the month after the term the monthly stops. Care is optional from there, €150 a month.
When is Zoho Recruit the right answer?
A small desk with a generic process, a tight budget, and no compliance weight. That is a real category and Zoho serves it well; at that point we will tell you to stay on it. The long version, including where Zoho wins, is in the comparison post.
